Utrozhestan 100 mg is a capsule containing the hormone progesterone. It can be taken with a pill containing the hormone estrogen as combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Utrozhestan is suitable for women with an intact uterus or a uterus when taken with estrogens (i.e. combined HRT ), such as Elleste Solo, Zumenon or patches such as Evorel and Estradot. This is not a form of contraception.
Utrozhestan 100 mg capsules are intended for oral use only. An alternative to them are Utrozhestan vaginal capsules of 200 mg, which are inserted into the vagina.
How does Utrozhestan work?
As a woman approaches menopause, the body’s natural production of both estrogen and progesterone decreases. Taking HRT increases the levels of these hormones, improving associated symptoms.
Taking estrogen alone causes the cells of the lining of the uterus, the endometrium, to thicken, which can lead to the development of uterine cancer in some women. Taking Utrozhestan counteracts this process, causing the lining of the uterus to shed every month, as during menstrual bleeding, which reduces the risk of cancer.
